Happy Sunday loves!
This has been my most anticipated and most exciting blog post to date! This journey has been one I have been excited to share with you guys since the beginning of this year when I started this entire process. If you follow me on Instagram you probably know by now that I did get veneers this year. I took a vote on my Instagram stories to see if you guys wanted to hear about the process – the response was an overwhelming yes! So today I am going to share my process, thoughts, things I wish I would have known before and I am answering a few of your questions!
Spoiler alert – if you’re thinking of doing veneers I do highly recommend it!
Rewind back to my younger days, I used to suck my finger until I was about 6 or 7 – I think it was a comfort thing so don’t judge! Of course this finger sucking caused me to have some bucked teeth once my adult teeth came around. When it was time for me to get braces for whatever reason I only had them on my first 4 teeth. Fast forward to my adult years, I was never really 100% happy with how my teeth looked. Bryson was actually the one to say at the beginning of this year “this is your year so let’s get your teeth done” he is such a gem!
Going into the veneers process I really didn’t know much about how it all worked and I did not know anyone personally to talk to about it so I was simply going off before and after photos. I hopped on Google to find the most reputable cosmetic dentist in my area to do a consult. I found the The Cosmetic Dentists of Austin and I really loved their before and after photos so I contacted them and went in for my consult. Aside from the really awesome consult I had with them what really sold me was the personal email I received from the doctor himself as well as the nice delivery of cake balls that showed up at my door the same day I scheduled my consult!
The way that The Cosmetic Dentists of Austin do veneers might be different than how your local cosmetic dentist does them but the veneers process itself will be the same! For me I was able to achieve the results I wanted within 4 appointments (usually they can do 2-3 but we had to redo a single tooth twice to get it perfect). The first appointment was cleaning and photos, the second appointment was the kicker – the removal of .5 mm of my my actual teeth to make room for the veneers. I will say this was the worst part of the entire experience because I hate the sound of drills and my anxiety was pretty bad BUT I made it through! At the end of this appointment because you can’t go walking around with half of your teeth I was fitted for temporary teeth which I wore for 3 weeks while my permanent veneers were being made.
Once my teeth were done and ready the final procedure was super easy! They removed my temporary teeth, gently placed my new teeth in one by one to ensure I loved them and then bonded all of them (except the one we had to redo). Once everything was bonded and sealed I was good to go and my veneers were on! Such a crazy feeling! When you see your new teeth for the first time it is SUCH a shock! I will tell you it takes a few days to get used to them but now 2 months later they feel like my own teeth and I don’t even see them as veneers.
Now when I look in the mirror I feel so much more confident than I did before! My smile has changed and my confidence has changed and it is all because of my teeth! I truly think that you show so much of yourself with your smile and before I never really wanted to show my teeth when I smiled because I didn’t love my teeth – well now I do!
Before and After Veneers
I have plenty of other super close up photos I can send to you if you’re wanting to see them (kinda gross) but I am happy to share them if you’re someone who is considering this process!
Overall I am so happy with my experience and so happy that I took the plunge. If you’re considering veneers I highly recommend finding someone in your area who does them and just go in for the consult to see what they say! Once you see the digitally modified before and after photos (if your dentist does that) you will be sold on it!
The only thing I would change about my experience is I wish I would have done more research or asked more questions. I really did not know how much of my natural teeth I would be loosing or what that process would be like but it was all worth it in the end! Do your research and ask your questions!
Veneers Q&A
Q: Does the process hurt?
A: Nope! The process itself does not hurt because you are numb most of the time. I did have some mild pain after I got the temporary teeth in but they just felt tight. That lasted a few days until I got used to them.
Q: What is the cost for veneers?
A: The cost for veneers is going to vary state to state and depends on who you go to. The average cost is between $800-$2000 per tooth. I was lucky and only had to do my top 10 because those are the only ones that show when I smile or talk. Most of the patients that go to my dentist have to do their entire mouth because all of their teeth show. I was a lucky one! One super important side note – my dentist offers a one time pay policy which is pretty much a guarantee on my teeth. If mine are damaged for any reason, my fault or not they fix them for free. I highly recommend finding a dentist who offers something similar to this policy!
Q: Do they feel weird in your mouth?
A: Nope! They feel like my own teeth. I honestly don’t even think about them in my day to day routine. I can bite into an apple, pizza, chips really anything! I do not have any limits on what I can and can’t eat. I am able to treat them like my own teeth!
Q: Will the veneers ever change color or turn yellow?
A: Nope! Porcelain veneers will never stain or change colors even if you’re a coffee or a wine drinker! For reference I went with a shade #1.5 with my porcelain. A #1 is like super dupe white so I wanted to be just a tiny step down from that and they will be that color forever!
I hope this answers most of your questions about veneers – if I missed yours or if you have any other questions or you want to see more of my before and after photos I would be happy to send them to you! Send me an email to [email protected]. If you live in the Austin are I cannot recommend The Cosmetic Dentists of Austin more! Once they found out I was a blogger they offered me a discount code for my Austin followers or anyone who wants to see them which is simply my name (Jennifer Walker) and you get $2500 off your treatment!
Thanks again for stopping by loves and I hope you have a great rest of your weekend!
